About Their Program

Creating a Day of Service to Engage Students in Service

Situated in Allen, Texas, Allen Independent School District is dedicated to fostering a sense of purposeful service among its students. A central component of their graduation requirement is the cultivation of engaged citizens. School leaders at Allen High School  Initially, school leaders faced a formidable challenge in involving their vast student population of over 5,400 in meaningful service endeavors. Nevertheless, through collaboration with various school organizations and establishing connections with local nonprofit entities, administrators and students joined forces to inaugurate Eagle Give Day - an annual day dedicated to service at Allen High School. This initiative proved to be a resounding triumph, enhancing student involvement and raising awareness about the needs and contributions of local nonprofits.

From Jennifer Clements, Student Leadership and Peer Mentoring Teacher, Allen High School

"We decided to make it a day of service learning. To get our kids, the whole campus involved. And our goal was two parts: 1) Expose students to opportunities and community needs and 2) Get students involved in service projects and expose them to the joy of serving"

AHS GOAL: Have every student participate in Eagle Give Day of Service.

Culture of Service

How Allen ISD is Creating a Culture of Service on Campus

Creating a Culture of Service at Allen Independent School District is one of the district's top goals. The district firmly believes in the importance of engaging students in community service and instilling a sense of purposeful service among them. By actively involving students in service projects, they aim to develop engaged citizens who are proactive in making a positive impact on their community.

How they are creating a culture of service

  • Students are taking responsibility by planning and leading the projects
  • Staff are involved and enjoy serving alongside students
  • Staff coached first-time volunteers and explained the process and helped them sign up for activities
  • Students earn engagement points throughout the year by participating in school activities and service projects. Students can redeem their engagement points for early access to class scheduling and seniors can earn a special graduation cord

AHS Vision: Become a campus with a culture of service where students are engaged citizens and active in their community.
